VIDEO: Kevin Durant explains why he uses burner accounts on social media

Kevin Durant is one of the most versatile players in recent NBA history, a winner of MVP trophies and NBA championships who don’t have much appreciation among fans these days. After he shocked the entire world and joined the already star-studded Warriors, Kevin Durant became an NBA champion and finally added the most important accolade in his career.

That move in some way cemented his reputation among many NBA fans as someone who took the easy way to a championship ring but Durant always emphasized how he never made the wrong decision by joining the team from Oakland. Alongside with that decision, Durant was also criticized by his behavior off the court especially in the “Burner Accounts” affair he had with his fake Twitter account.

In a recent interview, he had on ESPN’s show “The BoardRoom” Durant gave a bit more insight on why he used the fake account in the first place. Durant also said he doesn’t want media further in his private life simply because they tend to twist things around and taking his word out of context.

I wasn’t used to that amount of attention, you know, from playing basketball. I wanted a place where I wanted to talk to my friends without anybody just butting in my conversation or mixing my words or taking everything out of context because I enjoyed that place. I had an Instagram account that I just use for my friends and family. Like it’s a cool place for me just to be me instead of worrying Bleacher Report or Barstool mixing it up anything I want to say to CJ or friends from back home, you know? So I just try to I guess try to live a normal life out in the public, I guess.

KD explains his burner accounts: “I wanted a place where I could talk to my friends without anybody just butting into my conversations or mixing my words or taking everything out of context because I enjoyed that place…instead of worrying about BR or Barstool mixing up anything I say to CJ” from r/nba
