The NBA ratings are significantly lower than before and this may present a problem for the league in the long run

The NBA is having severe problems with a decrease in viewership, which is becoming a problem. They are already trying to find a solution to the problem. In recent years the viewership was increasing; however, in a recent report by John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal, he says every major network has experienced a significant decline in the audience through the first couple of months into the season.

The data is pretty clear, and TNT experienced the most significant drop in coverage by 23 percent. ESPN dropped by 20 percent, while regional networks have seen a 13 percent drop in coverage. These numbers are not a good sign of the NBA. That is the result of the frustration many fans have towards the NBA. The type of basketball that is currently played in the league is becoming a problem for a lot of fans who think watching games became a waste of time.

The fans are frustrated with the number of threes teams take every game, and often you will see players chuck up one lousy shot after the other. Of course, this is not the only reason for the lack of coverage, and we’ve seen fans complaining about the disbalance between the western and eastern conference, load management, and even the absence of superteams from the NBA.

It will be interesting to see how the leadership of the league will react to these numbers. Finding a solution might not be an easy task, but it’s a necessary one at this stage. Adam Silver already said NBA is planning to implement several changes that will come to action before the 2021/22 season. Whether these changes will bring some positive remains to be seen, but it’s definitely in the league’s interest to think of a plan that will bring the fans closer to the game.
