Steve Kerr shares why Kevin Durant is more gifted than Michael Jordan

Steve Kerr recently gave an excellent interview for NBC Bay Area’s Raj Mathai in which he discussed his relationship with Kevin Durant and what it was like coaching one of the best true scorers of all time. Kerr was impressed with everything he saw from Durant this year in the playoffs, even though he admits that wasn’t that much of a surprise because Kerr saw his greatness daily when Durant was a member of the Golden State Warriors with whom he won two NBA titles.

“He’s just showed he’s the most talented basketball player on earth, if not of all time. Honestly, he’s just so gifted. I loved coaching him, and I’m looking forward to doing so again.”

Sidelinesources previously reporter Kerr will be joining forces with Gregg Popovich this summer at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which will allow him to coach several great players in hopes Team USA can win the gold medal. Kevin Durant also committed to play in the Olympics, which means Kerr and Durant will reunite after leaving the Warriors to play for the Brooklyn Nets.

Interestingly enough, Kerr also discussed the comparison between Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant, saying he believes Durant is more gifted as a basketball player. Kerr has been in the NBA for more than 30 years, but he never saw someone like Durant, who has an incredible combination of size, skill, and shooting ability only a few can match.

“I think he’s more gifted, I really do, That’s saying something, but Kevin is a different … entirely different breed. He’s 6-11 with guard skills, unlimited 3-point range, passing, shot-blocking — his shot-blocking at the rim, it’s just stunning. Watching him this year was really, really gratifying to see.”

In the interview, Kerr also said he believes Draymond Green is the best defensive player in the NBA even though that honor belonged to Rudy Gobert this year. However, saying Kevin Durant is more gifted than Michael Jordan might sound a bit controversial for many NBA fans when you take into account Jordan is regarded by many as the GOAT. There is no doubt Durant belongs among the most elite players in NBA history, which he proved once again during the Nets playoff run this season.
