Steve Kerr compared Luka Doncic to Larry Bird: “He’s different. You know, he’s got this incredible knack for seeing the floor and being a step ahead”

The Dallas Mavericks beat the Warriors last night in a dominant 124-97 win in which Luka Doncic once again proved he is a top 10 player in the league. In just 27 minutes of action, Luka scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. After the game, Warriors head coach talked about Luka and his performance against his team that lost nine straight games. Kerr, who coached and played with numerous HOF, said Luka is one of the most important things that happened to the NBA.

“I love the manner in which he plays with a smile on his face. He is obviously having fun out there, and he is a brilliant basketball player. He makes his teammates better. Great passer, great shooter. And he’s great for the game. You know, he’s really good for the NBA. He’s important for the league, and it really doesn’t really have anything to do with him coming from Europe. It’s more just what a wonderful basketball player he is.”

Kerr, who’ve seen numerous great players in life, thinks Luka’s style of play is very similar to the one of Larry Bird, one of the most versatile players in NBA history. Luka is having the same kind of impact on the game and is one of the biggest reasons why the Mavs are currently 6th in a very tough western conference.

“He’s different. You know, he’s got this incredible knack for seeing the floor and being a step ahead. He reminds me a little bit of Larry Bird in that regard. He’s kind of one step ahead in the chess match, but he’s got this James Harden skill set with crossover and step backs. He’s a brilliant player and so young, and he’s going to be one of the cornerstones of this league for a long time. So he’s very important for the NBA.”
