A team that definitely had the most disappointing season this year are the Los Angeles Lakers. After they missed the playoffs, it was announced Magic Johnson left his position as the president of basketball operations, and what followed soon after that was the decision that Luke Walton was fired from his position as the head coach.

There were always rumors going around the league that Magic didn’t dedicate much of his time to his position with the Lakers and how Luke Walton was put in a situation in which not a lot of coaches want to be. The Lakers are the most popular basketball franchise in the world and with that comes a lot of responsibility which is mostly focused around the success and getting the team back in the playoff contention after a couple of years.
In a recent interview Steve Kerr, who worked closely with Luke Walton during his time with the Warriors, believes the Lakers made a big mistake by letting him go. Kerr also said coaches are usually the first victims in franchises that are not stable and where circumstances are not in the right order
In the NBA you are 100 percent dependent on the circumstances. The strength of the organization, the momentum, unity, and everything has to be in good order because if it’s not, as we already witnessed with the Lakers. There will be casualties and it’s usually the coaches are the first one. They are losing one of the best human beings in the NBA. They are losing a guy that knows the game as well as anybody I ever met. They are losing someone the players believe in and want to play for. But again, he was dependent on circumstances just like all of us are. I feel for Luke and I feel fortunate enough to have a set of circumstances here where we got wonderful people who are stabilizing our organization every single day and I am lucky to be in this position and be surrounded by these people because of that doesn’t happen often in the NBA.
