Stephon Marbury thinks Zion Williamson is better than LeBron James

Stephon Marbury retired from basketball earlier this year, but it looks like his hot takes are just getting started.

The 41-year-old two-time NBA All-Star boldly proclaimed on Instagram Live a ridiculously bold claim, saying that Duke’s Zion Williamson, who has yet to play a regular season college game, is better than LeBron James. 14-time All-Star, four-time MVP, three-time NBA champion LeBron James.

Marbury was on Instagram Live, discussing the future of Duke freshman and perspective lottery pick Zion Williamson. The two-time NBA All-Star went as far as to say that Williamson is the “only person” who has a chance to be better than Michael Jordan and that Williamson is already better than LeBron James.

“The reason why I would say LeBron is not the best basketball player is that he can’t shoot. Only Zion Williamson has the opportunity to be better than Michael Jordan. Zion is going to destroy the whole entire basketball planet. Zion is way better than LeBron, it’s not even close.”

Marbury also confidently said that Michael Jordan, not James, is the best basketball player of all time because “LeBron can’t shoot.”

Even the most casual basketball fan will take this statement with a bit of skepticism as there is just no way an incoming college freshman can be better than the consensus best player in the world.

Most people agree Williamson is a very special athlete. You could argue he might even be a better athlete than James. At 6-foot-8, 285 pounds with a 40-plus inch vertical, Williamson is an athletic freak of nature.

Williamson could go down as a legend in time, in which case we can commend Marbury about being ahead of the curve 25 years from now, but he’s got a long way to go to sniffing GOAT territory before we can even mention him and James in the same sentence.
