Stephon Marbury Thinks Donovan Mitchell Should Aim For MVP Award

Donovan Mitchell had an incredible rookie season for the Utah Jazz, making a name for himself and, along the way, getting a lot of eyes on the Jazz. Heading into year two, Mitchell has big expectations from everyone, including retired basketball star Stephon Marbury.

After the Utah Jazz’s preseason victory over the Perth Wildcats, in which Donovan Mitchell Mitchell scored nine points in 21 minutes , he received praise from the former NBA star.

After the Jazz’s first preseason win, Mitchell posted on his Instagram account “Good to be back.” Marbury, clearly a fan of Mitchell, replied to the post and told the Jazz star to “go for MVP.”

It is nice to see another star giving Mitchell words of encouragement. Last season, we saw stars praising him and giving advice after games that the Jazz guard still carries with him to this day.

Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell burst onto the scene last season and is primed to have an even better campaign in year two. In 79 games during his rookie year, Mitchell averaged 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He also took his game to another level in the 2018 playoffs, showing no signs of timidness. The explosive guard averaged 24.4 points in 11 games in the postseason and helped the Jazz defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round in six games. Expectations are high for Mitchell’s sophomore season, and former NBA player Stephon Marbury doesn’t want Mitchell to limit his goals.
So, will Mitchell win the MVP award this season? It will be tough. He does certainly have MVP traits, though. Specifically, the keep-shooting mentality, the never-quit attitude and the killer instinct, so it wouldn’t surprise many people at all if he is an MVP one day.
