Snoop Dogg made a guest appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, where he talked about the NBA but sports in general. He is known as an avid basketball fan and big Lakers supporter, who started watching the game ever since the early 80’s when the big rivalry between the Lakers and Celtics was at its full swing. Since he’s been a fan of the game for over four decades, Snoop talked about his top five NBA players of all-time.
Surprinslgy enough, none of the modern era players didn’t make it on his list, and he immediately said Larry Bird is the first player he would put on there. Snoop has a lot of respect for Bird because of all the great games he had during his career, especially against the Lakers. Obviously, as a Lakers fan, Snoop has Magic and Kareem on his list alongside Michael Jordan as the best shooting guard.
I’m going to throw him out there cause I’ve seen him, and he hurt my feelings a lot of time, Larry Bird. Larry you are in here. Michael Jordan. Magic Johnson. Kareem.Snoop Dogg, via Club Shay Shay
When it comes to the final player on his all-time starting lineup, Snoop mentioned a somewhat overlooked player today, and it’s none other than George Gervin. As a kid watching the NBA, he patented his game around everything he saw Gervin do in the game, and it stayed even to this day.
This pick got to do with whom my game resembled as a kid in the 70’s and the 80’s and to this day. George ‘Iceman’ Gervin. I got his poster, and I will always remember that poster.Snoop Dogg, via Club Shay Shay
Gervin was one of the best pure scorers in the NBA, famous for his signature finger roll move, which captured a lot of attention because he made it look smooth and effortless. Even Michael Jordan said he was in a lot of ways inspired by Gervin and the way he played the game, so it’s not surprising Snoop, who grew up watching him all the time live, put him in his all-time starting five.
