Scottie Pippen takes subtle shots at MJ in the announcement of his new book

When you talk about the Chicago Bulls dynasty from the ’90s, the first name that comes to mind is, of course, Michael Jordan. Widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, MJ was undoubtedly the biggest reason those Bulls teams were so successful. But after all, basketball is a team sport, and Michael had a hell of a team behind him. Most notably, the best no.2 in the history of the NBA, Scottie Pippen.

MJ did leave a more significant impact, but you will be amazed by how vital Scottie was to those teams when you look in-depth at the stats. The small forward averaged more rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks than MJ in each of their six championship runs. That versatility combined with the unselfish nature allowed Jordan to shine in the best way possible, while Scottie often got overlooked.

We all thought Scottie was okay with being labeled the no. 2 guy, but after “The Last Dance” came out last year, Pippen voiced some disagreements on the portrayal of 90’s Bulls and Michael Jordan. Scottie thought the documentary revolved much more on glorifying MJ than the team, as that didn’t sit well with him. But now Scottie has decided to tell his side of the story.

Pippen is releasing a new tell-all book named “UNGUARDED,” scheduled for November, in which he will take control of the narrative and tell the story of those Bulls team from his point of view. What brought a lot of attention to this book is the high potential of subtle jabs and criticism towards “The Last Dance” and Michael Jordan himself. The book’s official description is all the evidence you need to check it out:

“Simply put, without Pippen, there are no championship banners — let alone six — hanging from the United Center rafters. There’s no ‘The Last Dance’ documentary. There’s no ‘Michael Jordan’ as we know him. The 1990’s Chicago Bulls teams would not exist as we know them. Pippen details how he cringed at being labelled Jordan’s sidekick, and discusses how he could have (and should have) received more respect from the Bulls’ management and the media. He discusses what it was like dealing with Jordan on a day-to-day basis, while serving as the real leader within the Bulls locker room.”

UNGUARDED

We all knew Pippen was the glue to keeping everyone together on that team, bringing the fine line between stars and role players. Just like a natural leader does. But despite that, he never got mentioned in the manner of a leader, but rather the help to the great Michael Jordan. And now it seems Scottie has had enough, as he will tell his side of the story and defend his legacy in this spicy must-read piece. We can’t wait for November and all the new never-before-heard stories about the greatest basketball team of all time.
