For the past couple of games, Rudy Gobert and the NBA officials haven’t had a good relationship. He was active at criticizing officials which resulted in a fine on Wednesday and we all saw the consequences of that action on Gobert’s behavior. In a recent game against the Houston Rockets, he was ejected after three minutes and know again is back at criticizing the referees.
This was initiated during a Jazz loss to the Thunder and Gobbert had some really strong words after that game towards the officials and the injustice he is receiving while playing on the court.
“Tonight, someone grabbed my arm, pulled me down — that was a very dangerous play, and I got called for the foul. So if I gotta do justice myself, I’m gonna do justice myself. And it’s gonna get ugly,” Gobert said. “Hopefully I don’t have to do that. I just want to play basketball.”
Gobbert is currently having a great season while averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds on a really high percentage. He is still relatively young as a center and there is a lot of room for improvement especially with the communication towards the refs.
He did later admit being a referee is not an easy thing to do and it’s important for him to stay focused on the game if the Jazz wants to repeat the success they had last year. The season is still long and they need to make certain adjustments in order to catch up the best teams currently in the NBA.
Stay out of trouble Rudy!
