Trash-talking is an integral part of competing in the NBA, and many players use it either to motivate themselves or to get under their opponents’ skin. Players nowadays are restrained when it comes to trash-talking since the refs and the league no longer tolerate it as it they used to before. Despite these restrictions, players find ways to talk trash, and some of them are pretty creative when it comes to talking trash without using any profanity, which is usually immediately punished by the NBA.
In his recent podcast, Miami Heat‘s sharpshooter Duncan Robinson talked about how imaginative Robin Lopez was during one of their games against the Heat. According to Robinson, Tyler Hero drew a foul that upset Lopez so bad that everyone in the league deserves an Oscar for their acting performances.
This league is full of theatrics and thespians. Several of you are worthy of oscar level performances for what you’ve done tonight. All of you should be embarrassed, all of you…embarrassed.Duncan Robinson, via The Long Shot
Using the word thespians in trash-talking is something you don’t see every day, but it caught Robinson’s eye during that game. Definitely not your standard type of trash-talking.
Just the fact to throw thespians into NBA trash talk was just fantastic. Its grade A, top tier trash talk. I enjoyed it; I really enjoyed it, I laughed. I thought that was a fun one.Duncan Robinson, via The Long Shot
