So much has happened since Rondo and LeBron were the “enemies”. After the Lakers signed LeBron and after he made his debut game with Denver Nuggets even though the Lakers were defeated (124-107), Rondo was surprised by James and his leadership qualities.
“I played against him for 13 years now, but obviously I think what you hear versus what you see is a little bit different,” said Rondo.
He continued explaining how James is a tad different than he imagined:
“He isn’t who I thought he was, he’s probably even a better leader, especially on the floor, telling everybody where to go and directing traffic.”
Rajon Rondo has been known as a basketball savant whose unique mind conjures up the most ingenious passing angles, and now it looks like he is not the only one who can do it.
“I’m so used to doing that myself, so it’s kind of refreshing to me to not have to talk every possession down the floor because I have someone else doing the same thing that you can obviously trust,” said Rondo and added how was playing with LeBron and not against him:
“We were trying to move the ball, share the ball, get the ball from side to side, and communicating defensively, flying around, gang rebounding.”
“We gave up some offensive rebounds in early on the first quarter, but if we clean those up we can get out in transition. Our pace was good, and our space was good, too. There’s a lot of communication.”
Everybody agrees with Rondo at least in one thing, their better relationship should benefit their teammates and their club.
“That’s going to be good for our ballclub,” said Rondo.
LeBron James was only featured for 15 minutes, mostly during the first quarter, but still shot nine points, three rebounds and three assists for the Lakers.
