Paul George is one of the most scrutinized players coming into the new season, and it seems there are many backlashes pointed towards him within the NBA community. In last night’s game against the Phoenix Suns, there was a moment in the fourth quarter in which George got into a scuffle with Devin Booker, who lashed out a few insults in George’s direction that didn’t sit well with him. George had a great game dropping 39 points in a win over the Suns, shooting exceptionally well from the field, but in an interview after the game, he addressed all the insults and trash-talking he’s receiving lately.
George said he sees the change in how other players in the NBA treat him, and it seems there is more trash-talking pointed towards him than in previous years. According to George, this type of behavior is initiated because of his poor performances in last season’s playoffs, and he is not letting that affect his performance.
I had a tough year last year. People think it’s sweet because I was down, I didn’t hear none of this my 10 years in the league, but people are living on that last year, and I gotta answer to that. I gotta be ready for that, and I’m ready to compete, I’m back.Paul George
In the first seven games so far this season, George is averaging 25 points per game, showing he is still one of the NBA’s best scorers. After tonight’s game, he said he would continue to focus on his game and not let anyone distract him from the goal he set out for himself and the Clippers this season. The trash-talking pointed towards him from the start of the season is something he doesn’t care about and is fully locked in for the primary task, winning an NBA championship.
I don’t talk, I’ play my game, and for whatever reason, the dudes are talking, and I never heard people talking. It’s never been directed towards me, but for some reason, it’s a lot of mouths, and it’s fine. I got to play up to that and go through the fire. As long as we come up on top, we win, and I help my team win; that is all that matters. They can do whatever they want because I’m locked in.Paul George
