Larry Bird proved time and time again that he's one of the best trash talkers of all time. We covered dozens of similar stories of Bird humiliating his opponents, and we wrote about the ten times Larry Bird proved he was a trash-talking genius. Here's one that stands out for a few reasons.
Bird is a psychological assassin.
Terrell Brandon joined the Basketball Kingz PDX back in 2019 and talked about his experience playing against Larry legend — he shared a few crazy anecdotes. The two-time All-Star was a rookie point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers during his first duel with The Hick from French Lick.
“It was 91/92 season, and we were playing the Boston Celtics; it was Bird, McHale, Parrish — the great three. And we were up by one. He said, 'who's guarding me?' After we come from the time-out. Now remember I'm a rookie, I said, 'Craig Ehlo.' He said, 'why you got that white boy on me? Don't put that white boy on me.'”

Not the only time
The Craig Ehlo story isn't an isolated case of Bird being insulted by his opponents for being guarded by white players. Back in 1984, the Celtics faced the Bulls and a young Michael Jordan. Coach Doug Collins decided Ben Poquette was the best defensive match-up for Bird, and boy was he wrong — Larry had 33 points at half-time and finished the game with 41.
