Given the reaction of everyone on the team, this was not planned.

Manute Bol

Every once in a while, a freak game occurs where a certain player records inconceivable stats. Manute Bol gave us one of those nights.

Splash Bol

You all remember Manute Bol, standing at 7 foot 7 inches, the tallest player to ever play in the NBA (along with Gheorghe Mureșan). Some 25 years ago, Manute Bol stepped on the floor, and to the amazement of the crowd, his teammates, and his old friend Charles Barkley, Manute decided to take 12 3-point attempts in the 2nd half and managed to connect on half of them to account for all 18 of his points.

To this day, Bol's performance remains a record for the most threes scored in one half by a Sixer. Bol attempted 3 more 3-pointers the next game and missed all three of them. It would be another 8 games until he attempted another shot from beyond the arc and 16 games until he connected on another.

”Special blessing”

Manute is believed to have been born on October 16, 1962, in either Turalei or Gogrial, Sudan (currently South Sudan). He was the son of a Dinka tribal elder who gave him the name Manute, which means "special blessing."

Bol played for two colleges and four NBA teams over his career. A center, he was known as a specialist player and was considered among the best shot-blockers in the history of the sport despite other aspects of his game being considered fairly weak.

Over the course of his career, Bol blocked more shots than he scored points, making him the only NBA player ever to do so. He is second all-time in NBA history in terms of average blocked shots per game and ranks 15th on the career blocks list.
