T-Mac's career night vs Gilbert Arenas and the Wizards

A trip down the memory lane to 2004, and a regular-season game between the Wizards and the Magic which happened on this date.

Tracy went out to score a staggering 62 points as the Orlando Magic posted a 108-99 victory over the Washington Wizards. The NBA's scoring leader and defending scoring champion, McGrady became the first player to score 60 in a game since Shaquille O'Neal had 61 for the Lakers on March 6, 2000, also against the Clippers. Ironically, McGrady shattered O'Neal's franchise record of 53 set April 20, 1994, vs. Minnesota.

McGrady outscored the Wizards 24-23 in the first 18 minutes of the game. At the end of the game, McGrady shot 20-for-37 from the field, including 5-for-14 from 3-point range, and made 17 of 26 free throws in 46 minutes. He also had 10 rebounds and five assists.

"My Teammates came to me and told me to get 60, then they told me to get 70," McGrady said laughing. "I was going for 70 and if I would have made my free throws, I would have had it. But this was a big night for me personally because it's been a long season. It's been a frustrating season, but this will give ma a little boost"

"He was knocking down shots, even out of double-teams," said Wizards coach Eddie Jordan.

"We could have stopped him by fouling him real hard, but you don't want to play dirty basketball," said Washington guard Gilbert Arenas, who fell one short of his career-high with 40 points. "You just got to let him play and once he gets it rolling, he's really hard to stop.

Overall, McGrady's performance led to one of the Magic's 21 wins that season. It was a letdown of a campaign after Orlando went 42-40 the season before and nearly upset the top-seeded Detroit Pistons in the first round the playoffs.
