LeBron James faced a lot of scrutiny from the fans and the media in his career but none was so harsh after he made the infamous "Decision" and joined the Miami Heat where he joined forces with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. After announcing they plan to win multiple championships the narrative completely changed and a lot of fans felt disappointed by James's actions especially after he lost to the Mavericks in the 2011 NBA finals.
That finals series was a big surprise in the NBA community and the Mavericks exposed LeBron as someone with an unreliable jump shot and unwillingness to take over games at crucial times. James averaged 17.8 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds shooting at a lower percentage than usual. As the series progressed almost everyone supported the Mavericks simply because they wanted LeBron James to fail in his quest to win his first championship.
In an interview after losing to the Miami Heat in game 6, a news reporter asked James about a big number of NBA fans cheering against him. LeBron said they should put their personal problems in front of the issues they have against him and focus more on their own lives.
"All the people that were rooting on me to fail, at the end of the day they gotta wake up tomorrow have the same life that they had before they woke up today. Same personal problems that they had today. I'm gonna continue to live the way I wanna live and continue to do the things I want to do. I will be with my family and be happy with that. They can take a few days or a few months being happy about not only myself but the Miami Heat about accomplishing the goal and get back to the real world."
