Jason Williams' Famous ELBOW Pass
During the Rookie-Sophomore game in the 2000 All-Star Weekend, Jason Williams demonstrated something basketball fans have never seen before. The worldwide heard of elbow pass.
Williams was representing the second-year players in the old format of the Rising Stars Challenge. As the starting point guard in an exhibition game, while being known for his flashy play he was expected to be one of the main players in the game and he delivered.
Some reporters were joking that Williams is physically incapable of making a routine chest pass. And they weren’t far off. ”White chocolate” embraced the freewheeling nature of All-Star Weekend and turned it into an entertaining show. Throughout the game, he was throwing behind back passes, alley-oops, shooting rainbow threes, etc. But the ultimate highlight was when Williams started a 4 on 2 fast breaks and seemed to get ready to throw a behind back the pass but he bounced it off his elbow to Raef LaFrentz who got fouled. It was a shame that pass didn’t end up as an assist. Maybe if he passed it to Paul Pierce or Dirk Nowitzki who were his other options on the break it would have ended with a bucket.

The whole crowd stud up and gave him a standing ovation, which was probably the first time a crowd went into a frenzy because of a pass. Williams finished the game with 9 points and 5 assists. 17 years later he did it again in a Celebrity Game, although it was much less exciting at least it ended as an assist.
