In 2016 the Blazers offered Mo Harkless a 500K bonus if he shot at least 35 percent from three for the entire season

Mo Harkless

In 2016, Mo Harkless signed a $40 million contract with the Portland Trailblazers for four-years. That wouldn't be strange if the contract itself didn't have different incentives worth around $2 million. One of them was worth around $500,000 if he finished the season shooting at least 35 percent from the three-point land.

Harkless didn't attempt a single three in the last four games of the 2016/17 season and finished the year at 35.1 percent. In the final regular-season game against New Orleans, Harkless came in making 68 of 194 attempts, which was good enough for 35.1 percent. On the other hand, if he missed one shot, he would end up with 34.8 percent.

Before the game, reporters asked Harkless whether he would attempt a three-pointer if the game was on the line.

"Then I would pump fake and try to get fouled," Harkless said, chuckling."

After spending four seasons with the Portland Trailblazers, Harkless signed a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers and is coming off the bench, averaging 5.5 points per game. He is shooting 34.6 percent from the three-point land, but we assume he no longer has an incentive build in his contract of shooting better than 35 percent.
