HOW CHARLES BARKLEY became The Cake Bandit

Find me a better love story than the one between Charles Barkley and food. I dare you! From his time at college when in his first 200 days there, he ordered pizza 100 times to the time he tried to avoid getting drafted by the 76ers by purposely gaining weight, Charles Barkley has been a true gourmand, and he was never the one to hide it. Some would argue that not taking care of his body stopped him from having an even bigger career. Chuck would argue for another Krispy Kreme doughnut.

Barkley's love for food made him an outlaw. So much that Charles joined a gang. And not just any gang, but the gang of Cake Bandits in Leeds, Alabama. The gang only had two members, 12-years-old Chuck, and his friend, and their target were the supermarkets. Barkley and his friend would wait in the ambush for the cake delivery truck at the supermarket. After the completion of delivery, they would swoop in and help themselves. The operation was running smoothly until one night; police were waiting on the spot. They caught them by surprise, resulting in Charles running through the woods behind the store, hitting a tree, and nearly knocking himself out. That was a lesson for both of them, and Barkley hasn't stolen anything since then. We are not sure for his friend, though.

This story gives us an insight into Barkley's roots as a food consumer. It seems like he was always willing to do whatever it took to get a slice of his favorite meal. That's why many consider him to be one of the greatest food consumers the league has ever seen. There are discussions about how Chuck would adjust to today's era, with so many different junk food types available to him. However, I believe that Chuck's love for the food is transferable to any period, and those cross-era comparisons mean nothing to him.
