Zach Snyder on directing Michael Jordan in "Playground" — “He’s a natural.”

One went on to make Space Jam, the other 300, Justice League, Army of the Dead, Man of Steel, Watchmen, and Dawn of the Dead. Two great movie careers, starting in 1990.

Zach Snyder's style is unmistakeable - from 300 to Justice League, you know when you're watching a Snyder movie. But that style took time to develop. His debut film was a 1990 movie called Playground, which starred one Michael Jeffrey Jordan

”He’s a natural. Everything is just easy to him.”

Snyder helmed the movie Playground in 1990, the first film he ever directed, and we could say it played its part in shaping his techniques in his later movies that would make him a household name.

The movie was 43-minute long, featuring MJ’s career highlights, some discussions about his greatness, and a fictional story about a kid who got cut from his high school basketball team and met Mike on a playground one day. That story was similar to how Jordan didn’t make the final cut from his Laney High School team and was instead placed on the Junior Varsity to improve more.

When talking about Jordan’s acting skills, Zach couldn’t help but point out that the Chicago Bulls star was clutch in every situation.

Stepping stone to success

The movie has a 7.3 rating on IMDB - not bad for a directorial debut. Snyder went on to become one of the best visionaries of his generation with blockbuster hits including Justice League, Army of the Dead, Man of Steel, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, and 300. Meanwhile, Jordan was featured in Space Jam, and the hit Netflix docuseries The Last Dance.

MJ also built his empire from his brand. He is among the few who managed to reach billionaire status among athletes. As seen in the short clip, Mike had that charisma early on, and it’s not surprising that old and new fans viewed Space Jam and The Last Dance.

It’s a nice bit of trivia to share during parties or reunions about this one. Not many know that Zach Snyder’s first film featured Jordan: two titans who collaborated on a project that would be close to impossible to pull off today.

But, for sure, Snyder and Jordan would demand not only a huge fee but also a good script. Nonetheless, it’s interesting to see a project made today and how their evolutions as a person off and on the cam would translate to the screen.
