“I don't think they had anything to talk about on the sports channel” — When Mike Bibby laughed at the Sacramento Kings for posting his "jacked" photo

During his playing years in the league, former Sacramento Kings point guard Mike Bibby was known for his ability to score and set his teammates up. While most retired players let themselves go, Bibby went the other way and caught everyone's eye.

Jacked for years

If you were born in the mid-2000s, you probably never heard of Bibby, and you might’ve just seen him in passing on Twitter, specifically in June 2018 when the Kings’ official Twitter page posted a photo of him with the caption, “On a scale of 1-10, how JACKED is Mike Bibby.”

At the time, Bibby was still the head coach of Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, and in the photo, the former Kings star was almost unrecognizable because he was so swole.

Though Bibby never had that physique during his active years in the NBA, he said his body has been like that since retirement. The former Arizona Wildcat laughed it off and suspected that the Kings’ Twitter page did not have anything to talk about at the time.

I’ve been like this for the last five years and I don’t know why it came out all of a sudden,” Bibby told Springfield News-Leader in 2019. “I looked the same way and I’ve done the same stuff but I don’t think they had anything to talk about on the [Kings] sports channel…I don’t mind it. It’s all fun.

A coaching career

Bibby embarked on a coaching career shortly after playing his final NBA game in 2012. At Shadow Mountain High School, he triumphantly led the program to four consecutive state titles in five years.

Ultimately, Bibby was enjoying his new role in the sport, but he also admitted that it was “just different” because, in coaching, you can’t do anything but trust that your players can execute exactly what’s on your mind.

It’s different,” Bibby said of coaching. “When you’re coaching, you can’t go out there and do it. You have to rely on your players and hope what you’re telling them comes out on the court. It’s just different.

The team was in good hands under Bibby’s tutelage. Sadly, it abruptly ended after Bibby got fired following allegations of sexual abuse involving a female school teacher.

In the final quarter of 2019, Bibby found a new lease on life as the head coach of Hillcrest Prep Academy in Phoenix. However, after consecutive losses, the team decided to part ways with the jacked point guard.

At present, Bibby is still hoping to be a part of an organization where he can share his knowledge of the game. And yes, he’s still buff.
