In Jalen Rose’s line of work, weighing in on the juiciest and most controversial matters in the NBA is at the top of his job description as an analyst and host. However, the former Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls star never thought that one day, his marriage would be one of the hottest subjects of discussion.

A bizarre narrative

Last year, Jalen and his ex-wife Molly Qerim ended their three-year marriage and decided not to divulge why. But all of a sudden, the ex-couple’s divorce was plagued with controversies, outlined by the bizarre narrative that Rose’s co-ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith was having an intimate relationship with Molly.

Over time, Rose said that whenever he says something juicy about a team or a player, there are people who would bring up that rumor and clap back at him, saying, “That’s why Molly left him! or That’s why Stephen A. kickin’ it wit’ yo ex-wife!”

Rose admitted that seeing “people speculating” and “in particular saying it was because Molly and Stephen A. Smith had a relationship” used to bother him for like “a month” or so. But he remained unfazed because he knew none of that was true.

It was trending, he was trending, she was trending, I was trending,” Rose told GQ of the rumor. “It was a real thing. And, like, am I about to respond to that? It gave me a real fork in the road. But I didn’t, because I knew it wasn’t true.

But, when it happened, it’s two ways for me to handle it as a professional: I work with him, I got love for him, and that’s my brother,” he explained.

“Still 100”

Rose made it clear that he’s not detailing anything about their personal lives and what the real deal between Molly and Stephen A. is. However, he addressed his current status with the pair and assured everyone that they’re still tight despite all the rumors.

I got love for her, we were friends before we were married, we just didn’t work as a couple… Unequivocally, I’m not here to speak for what [Smith] he does in his personal life or what she does in her personal life, I got love for both of them. We still 100.

Indeed, rumors play a massive role in the sport of basketball, and oftentimes, it gets people thrilled and ecstatic. However, Jalen, Molly, and Stephen A.’s story give us a view of how terrible it is to be on the other side of it as the main subjects.
