That time Dennis Rodman thought Meryl Streep was a porn star

Dennis Rodman & Meryl Streep

Rodman once mistook Meryl Streep for a porn star

In the mid-90s, Dennis Rodman met Meryl Streep, but he mistook her for a porn star rather than an award-winning actress.

Rodman didn't recognize Meryl Streep

When it comes to one of the most iconic players in NBA history, Dennis Rodman's name is definitely on the top of this list. Known as a great defender and a rebounder, Rodman rose to fame not only for his stellar performance on the basketball court but because of the off-court endeavors that pretty much turned him into a celebrity. You could even argue that he was equally famous as Michael Jordan at one point in his career with the Bulls.

On top of that, Rodman had a unique personality and was a very straightforward person, which came to full effect when he met Meryl Streep, the award-winning actress. In his book "Walk on the Wild Side," Rodman describes the scene during the 1996 NBA Finals against the Seattle Supersonics when he heard a fan was eager to meet him at a hotel he stayed in Seattle. Rodman, at first, wasn't even aware that the woman that approached him with such admiration was Meryl Streep, so naturally, Rodman mistook her for a porn star.

"One night in our hotel bar in Seattle, some blond woman who seemed to have a buzz on came over and said she wanted to meet me. She seemed totally excited, almost like she was checking me out. "I really admire your work," she told me. She said that she loved the way I carry myself and assert my individuality. 1 turned away and asked one of my friends who she was. "She's an actress," my friend said. A PORNO STAR? "No," he said, "it's Meryl Streep."

Streep was a big fan of Rodman

Apparently, Streep was a big fan of Rodman, which initially surprised him since he didn't really know much about her or her accomplishments in the film industry.

"Meryl went on complimenting me for an hour. She was a really nice lady. "I liked you in Death Becomes Her," I told her. I didn't even know what other movies she'd been in. There was really nothing else I could say, so I just sat there and listened to her tell me how fabulous I am and how much she loves the way I act."

There are numerous situations from Rodman's life that you might describe as bizarre, and this one definitely belongs on that list. It's also kind of funny he thought Meryl Streep, who was at the time one of the most renowned actresses in Hollywood, was actually an adult film star. That simply proves Rodman never had problems saying whatever was on his mind, no matter who was in front of him. He always stayed true to himself, which is one of the reasons, so many people admired him, and just like Meryl Streep thought, he was a unique individual that doesn't care what other people thought of him.
