Whenever we hear the words pizza and Michael Jordan, the first thing that pops out is the alternative backstory of the iconic "Flu Game." However, Shaquille O'Neal may have just come up with a new storyline involving the abovementioned words. And in its context, Shaq was superior to the so-called GOAT.
MJ doesn't give free pizza
It's hard to tell exactly when it happened, but one thing certain is that O'Neal handed out free pizza to random people that day.
As the Los Angeles Lakers legend strolled in a neighborhood, Shaq bumped into a family that evidently doesn't follow the NBA. Stunned by O'Neal's massive appearance, one of the kids asked as he approached, "are you Michael Jordan?" Surprisingly, Shaq swiftly replied and quipped that he was "way better" than Jordan simply because he was giving away free boxes of pizza.
"You know my name now? It's Shaq O'Neal, I'm way better than Michael Jordan. You got it? 'Cause I'm handing out free pizza. Okay?... I'm better than Michael Jordan," O'Neal said in the video.
Of course, O'Neal was just fooling around with the family a bit as he realized outright that none of them had an idea who he was.
Shaq loves to share his blessings
For those who don't know, Shaq has entered an $11 million deal with the renowned pizza franchise "Papa John's." And while it's kind of obvious that his free pizza activity was part of a marketing stunt, the truth is Shaq loves to give back, especially to those who badly need help. In fact, he previously admitted that he wishes to have "enough power" to do more for the needy.
"It hurts my heart when I see homeless people…and I wish I had the quick answer to save everybody," Shaq admitted. "Like when I go give a guy a hundred dollars and say 'hey man, get something to eat.' That's helping out a little bit but what about next week? A week after that and the week after that?... I wish I was smart enough or I wish I had enough power to fix that."
Joking and marketing aside, Jordan certainly does good things for his community, too, and we can be sure that O'Neal was in no way throwing shade at MJ. If anything, it was just all about Shaq being Shaq.
As for the family who received a free pizza that day, they will never forget when they met Shaq, the man who was "better than" Michael Jordan.
