Shaquille O'Neal explains why he would choose Chris Webber before Tim Duncan

tim duncan vs chris webber

Shaquille O'Neal made a guest appearance on Storytime with Shaq alongside Ro Parrish where he talked about several things from his career and personal life. On top of that, he participated in a game start, bench or cut where he had to choose what he would do with different players that were presented to him.

When it came to the segment to choose between the best first picks from the 90's Shaq was offered to choose between Allen Iverson, Chris Webber, and Tim Duncan. Shaq would, in that case, start Iverson, but surprisingly enough, he would select Webber before Tim Duncan. Even though Tim Duncan is considered by many as the best power forwards of all-time and is the most accomplished athlete out of these three, Shaq thinks Webber was better. According to Shaq, Duncan had more help than Webber throughout his career and believes Duncan wouldn't be the same player everyone remembers him to be if he played on a different team other than the Spurs.

"Fundamental is one of those players he's got a lot, but he has a lot of bodyguards too. C-Webb didn't have a lot of bodyguards. Like, imagine Tim on a regular team. Would he be Tim? C-Webb has some s**t, and he didn't have a lot of bodyguards behind him. Imagine if you put C-Webb on that Spurs team, tell me what you got."

Duncan is a future Hall of Famer with numerous individual and team accolades under his resume, so this statement from Shaq comes as a surprise. Webber, on the other hand, was a tremendous basketball player who is often overlooked by many, mostly because he played on teams that didn't have much success in the playoffs. Apart from the success, Webber had with the Sacramento Kings; when they almost won the NBA championship in 2002, you can say Webber was always on wrong teams at the wrong time.
