The Jumpman logo associated with Mike wasn’t a logo at first. It was a wings insignia, and the logo was born about three years later. Many thought the Jumpman was Jordan going for a dunk; however, it was far from it. Peter Moore, who used to head the design team for the Jordan brand, did a photoshoot with MJ.

The Chicago Bulls legend attempted a ballet move, and it became the inspiration for the Jumpman logo, which makes sense because it featured a man stretching his legs and hands. The logo represented grace and athleticism, two things people could describe Jordan with.

The Jumpman logo is now worth billions

MJ remains the blueprint to all athletes on how to successfully leverage his success on the court to build a business empire. Because of Jumpman, Jordan is now worth billions. So it’s hard to imagine Mike being associated with other logos besides the Jumpman logo.

LeBron James recently eclipsed the billion-dollar net worth mark. Thanks to his ventures outside basketball and numerous endorsements, James continues to ascend the basketball and business industry hierarchy. But, no one else comes close to MJ, especially regarding having an iconic logo.

He’s now decades-long retired, but people still buy Jordan shoes and merchandise. That’s because fans associate the brand with winning. So MJ probably should say thanks to the photographer who snapped his ballet move because it would have been a different logo and story for the Jordan brand without it.
