In the eyes of many NBA fans worldwide, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is already a superstar. However, the Slovenian phenom was, at one point, also a fanboy. And just like most of us, Doncic froze when he met the superstar he looked up to.

Luka meets CR7

Growing up, Doncic said he played ”a lot of” soccer and used to be a “striker” just like Ronaldo. So when he moved to Spain to pursue a basketball career with Real Madrid, the young Luka was looking forward to meeting the former Los Blancos goalscorer in the flesh. However, when that day finally came, Doncic was starstruck and got lost for words.

[Cristiano] Ronaldo. He came here [at Real Madrid] when I was 13,” Doncic told Steve Nash in an interview with Bleacher Report in 2020. “We’d do like, Christmas dinner with everybody – soccer player, basketball players. I was sitting with him at the table. I was like 16 when I met him and I was so nervous, I couldn’t even talk so I didn’t ask anything.

As we all know, CR7 has a collection of some of the most luxurious sports cars in the world. Doncic confessed that one of the things he badly wanted to ask the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was if he could drive one of his whips. But because he was so nervous, Luka Magic never dared to say it.

One thing I wanted to, you know, always was to drive one of his cars,” he added. “He has so many cars. Amazing car collection. I love cars.

Real Madrid legends

Doncic and Ronaldo star in their respective sports, but one thing the pair have in common is that they are both Real Madrid legends.

In his six-year stint with Real Madrid, Doncic played a total of 216 games and won 7 titles in the process - 1 Euroleague, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 3 League titles, and 2 Copa del Reys. Last year, Real Madrid C.F. officially made Luka one of its “honorary club members” which is “the highest distinction awarded” by the club to an individual who represented its organization.

On the other hand, Ronaldo needs no further introduction as he was easily and arguably the greatest Real Madrid player of all time. The Portuguese won 15 trophies during his time with the renowned Spanish club, including two La Liga titles and the 2014 La Liga Best Player.

While there’s no doubt Doncic and Ronaldo have already etched their legacies in the hearts and minds of the Real Madrid faithful, the only question now is, will CR7 let Luka drive one of his luxury cars? Let’s wait and see.
