The 76ers young superstar center Joel Embiid is no stranger to interesting and controversial statements, as he is never scared to share his opinion no matter who it might trigger and this time he shared his opinion on the GOAT debate.
While this topic is often debated in recent times, as everybody is comparing Jordan and LeBron and putting them in a race, Embiid has a candidate of his own.
Embiid joined The Ringer for an interview during All-Star weekend and suggested his opinion that Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT rather than Michael Jordan.
“To me, you got Wilt Chamberlain. I mean, he has all the records. They’re never gonna be beaten. I don’t see anybody getting 100 points in a game. That’s it. He’s the GOAT.”
Of course, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but some find his opinion pretty off. Still, you can argue Embiid has a point. Chamberlain is one of the most underappreciated players ever, as he is often disrespected and excluded because of the era he played in, but he still holds most of the records to this date and possibly for a long time ahead.
Maybe Embiid is a bit biased in his opinion, as he is also a fellow big man and Wilt spent 7 years of his career playing in Philadelphia, but that doesn’t mean his choice isn’t valid, as he probably isn’t the only person who thinks Wilt should be included in the GOAT discussion in this very subjective topic.
