Howard's story dispels the notion that Bryant and him weren't friends, and adds to the every-growing legacy Bryant has left behind
Dwight Howard recalls his favorite Kobe Bryant story

Dwight Howard & Kobe Bryant

Dwight Howard has moved around a lot throughout his NBA career. Howard has played for seven different teams throughout his career, and that's not counting the three separate stints he has had with the Los Angeles Lakers. Through it all, Howard has put together an impressive career that will see him enter the Hall of Fame once he retires.

Howard tells his favorite Bryant story

Howard's first stint with the Lakers paired him up with Kobe Bryant for the 2012-13 season. While Bryant and Howard both earned All-Star selections this season, the Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the San Antonio Spurs, which was a fairly disappointing result. Howard would end up signing with the Houston Rockets in free agency, and that was that.

Many folks didn't think that Howard and Bryant got along, considering their team's lack of success that season and Howard's decision to ditch him for Houston. But Howard and Bryant were good friends despite the rumors suggesting otherwise. Howard even revealed his favorite story he has with Kobe that always reminds him that he and Bryant were friends when everyone else tells him otherwise.

"I remember going to Kobe's house one time, and he liked that movie Pitch Perfect. He was like, 'yo, have you seen that movie Pitch Perfect?' and I'm like, 'yeah, I like that movie,' and he's like 'yeah I like it too,' and I'm like, 'get the f*** out of here, you don't like Pitch Perfect,' and he says, 'I was just watching it last night, it's one of my favorite movies'… I don't care what people say, me and Kobe connected. I look back at all the pictures I've got of him, just me and him together, just talking, all the s*** that happened between me and him…I can see that. So when people saying 'Kobe ain't f*** with you like that' I just laugh." - Dwight Howard, Showtime Basketball

Howard and Bryant clearly bonded despite their lack of success together on the court

It's reasonable to believe that because a pair of teammates don't see results together on the court, they wouldn't like each other. We have seen friendships in the NBA fall apart, such as James Harden and Kyrie Irving on the Brooklyn Nets, because of their lack of on-court success. Many believed that was the case with Howard and Bryant because of their failed season with the Lakers.

But that clearly isn't the case, as Howard and Bryant remained close even after they weren't on the same team, and Howard's quick story about them bonding over Pitch Perfect displays that for all to see. Howard even admits he hears people saying that he and Bryant weren't close, and rather than argue to defend himself, he just remembers this short story and laughs.

It's incredible to know how many people Bryant had an impact on and managed to spend time with, even as he balanced being a professional basketball player and a father to four daughters. Howard's story here isn't the most insightful thing ever, but even then, it's clear Bryant had quite an impact on Howard. With each new story we get about Bryant in the aftermath of his untimely death, his legacy continues to grow and grow, and chances are it won't stop growing for quite some time.
