Dominique Wilkins shares what happened after a restaurant in Atlanta refused to serve him because of his skin color

Former NBA player and Atlanta Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins established himself as one of the best and most underrated players in league history. Wilkins put Hawks on the map during his tenure with them in the '80s and the 90s, even though they never won a championship. After his career was over, Wilkins stayed in Atlanta, embracing the city but yesterday, he probably had one of the least favorite moments living there.

Wilkins went to his Twitter account, saying Buckhead restaurant La Bibloquet refused to serve him because of the color of his skin.

"In my many years in the world, I've eaten at some of the greatest restaurants in the world," Wilkins tweeted, "but never have i felt prejudice or been turned away because of the color of my skin, until today in #atlanta in @LeBilboquetAtl #turnedawaybecauseimblack."

His statement caused a lot of interest from the public, who wanted to make sure his accusations were based on actual facts and not false accusations. Wilkins shared more Tweets about what actually happened at the restaurant and how the restaurant staff treated him when he got there.

Even the restaurant spokesperson went public, implying they encouraged a 'business casual dress code that Wilkins didn't follow. That was the biggest reason for not letting him go to the restaurant.

“We, at Le Bilboquet, do our best to accommodate all of our guests. However, we have received consistent complaints from our patrons regarding other guest’s wardrobe choices. As a result, to protect our restaurant’s culture, we installed a minimum standard in our ‘business casual’ attire dress code, which includes jeans and sneakers but prohibits baseball caps and athletic clothing including sweatpants and tops.”Though the definition of ‘casual’ is ever evolving, we strive to maintain our policy requirements daily, but it isn’t a perfect system.

It will be interesting how this story will unfold in the next few days because it's hard to believe Wilkins would falsely accuse the restaurant of racism just like that. Usually, the truth is always somewhere in the middle. Still, if they actually played the race card against Wilkins in this specific case, they should be penalized in every possible way.
