DANNY GREEN THINKS THERE are too many 'fake' fans: 'For the bandwagoners, you're not real fans'

Playing for the Los Angeles Lakers has always been a great privilege, but at the same time, the pressure is much higher because of the Lakers' enormous fan base. The current Lakers shooting guard Danny Green had to experience that same type of criticism from the regular fans and some celebrities like Snoop Dogg, who are avid fans of the team in purple and gold. After they lost the first game to the Houston Rockets, the fans weren't happy towards some of the role players and their performance.

On his podcast, Green talked about all the fake fans that are always spreading hate whenever the Lakers lose. There are many bandwagon fans, which in Green's opinion, are the worst because they are the first ones in line to lash out criticism and talk bad about the team and the players.

Shout out to the real fans that stuck with us when we were down 0-1. Shout out to the real friends, whether we're playing good or not, are still by our side. Because those are the real ones. You also know who your true friends are. Some of your true friends have your back, but some of them will still post memes and talk [expletive], that's what they do. When that happens, I say, 'memes are cool and all, it's funny and all, but when it comes to you, you don't see me doing that to you, so why would you do that to me. And if you're a true friend, you wouldn't post something for a laugh.'

After coming into the bubble, Green hasn't been performing at a level he is accustomed too, which caused criticism from a certain group of fans. As a professional athlete, you have to accept that and play your game to the best of your abilities. Green hopes the Lakers make it to the NBA finals, which will send a message to all the fake fans out there that doubted them.

"It's cool. I don't take it to heart, but you just know where you stand with certain people and certain fans. So, when it's all said and done, hopefully in October if we continue to play the way I know we're capable, we can tell those fake fans to go somewhere and won't invite them to the parade. Even though there probably won't be a parade because of the pandemic. We'll have to do something virtually, but if we are to win, I can give those fake fans a couple fingers that they might not like too much. … For the bandwagoners, you're not real fans. You're just bandwagon fans. You're only fans when things are going good. Those aren't true fans."

The Lakers are currently tied 1-1 with the Rockets in the second round of the playoffs, and Danny Green will have to be one of those players that will need to step up. With Rockets double-teaming both AD and LeBron, this creates opportunities for other players, especially great shooters like Green, to take advantage of the situation and substantially impact this series.
