There were numerous stories about Kobe’s competitiveness and dedication to practicing under any circumstances. In a recent interview for the Uninterrupted, Nick Young talked about a situation that happened in practice when he was playing for the Lakers.
Young said Kobe broke his thumb in practice when he swiped with the ball. Young was in extreme pain because of this incident but Kobe didn’t believe it happened and started talking trash to Young.
Kobe thought Young was trying to avoid practice, so he continued to hit him in that hand and passed the ball extra hard at him continuously throughout the practice.
“I broke my thumb. Actually, Kobe broke my thumb. He swiped for the ball, and I was going past him. Swipe, broke my finger, and I was like damn that s**t hurt the whole day, so during the whole practice, Kobe didn’t believe me. He thought I was trying to sit out, so he was hitting my hand, throwing the ball, passing the ball extra hard. I’m like dog, my finger broke for real. Listen to them! They telling you it could be broke. He said, you f**ing. You don’t want to practice. You know, Kobe is crazy.”
