Michelle Beadle says LeBron James tried to get her fired from ESPN

Michelle Beadle said LeBron James almost got her fired for her reporting on the famous Decision when he announced he would be joining the Miami Heat to form a big three with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Her coverage of The Decision almost got her fired

When it comes to sports journalists focused on the NBA, Michelle Beadle has been in this game for a long time, and after being with ESPN for years, she joined The Athletic, where she has a podcast called What Did I Miss? with Michelle Beadle. In the latest episode that featured Paul Pierce, the two discussed an interesting situation that allegedly happened in 2011 when LeBron James tried to get her fired from ESPN because of her comments on his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That moment in LeBron’s career brought a lot of criticism for his decision, and numerous fans and media members immediately had him as the number one target for their commentary. Beadle was one of them, and she and Pierce acknowledged LeBron was apparently trying to get her fired because of her coverage of The Decision.

“He tried,” Beadle said. “He did try to do that. I was like, ‘Wow, I’m honored that I’m even on your mind. Thank you very much, sir. That’s a weird place for me to be.'”

LeBron made it personal

Beadle said she didn’t have any personal issues with LeBron and was one of the many that didn’t appreciate him going to the Miami Heat and forming a superteam with another two All-Stars in Wade and Bosh. She also said it was never personal, but LeBron made it personal from that moment moving forward.

“My stuff with him started off not personal. I made fun of The Decision like 400,000 other talking heads did at the time. I think for some reason that was it. It wasn’t personal to begin, obviously now it will always be personal. It is what it is. I’m very comfortable with not liking people.”

Unfortunately, they didn’t give more details on what happened and what type of attempt LeBron had in hopes of getting her fired from ESPN. Beadle had two separate tenures with ESPN and one with NBC. She finally left ESPN after negotiating a buyout in 2019, and now she is active with The Athletic and their podcast network.
