Despite having excelled during the regular season in the last two years, the Milwaukee Bucks were left empty-handed in the end. It’s Finals or bust for the Bucks, as they have nothing left to prove in the regular season. So they are finally doing what everyone was pointing out the last two years – developing a system that will be competitive in May and June.
A third MVP title would mean little to Giannis if he again watches the NBA Finals on TV. But this season, the Bucks’ problem is on defense. And while the last two seasons they have been the first team in terms of defensive efficiency, this season they are only in 12th place in the league in that category. Therefore, it means little that they are currently the second most efficient team in the league when they don’t play on their usual level on the defensive end. But former Milwaukee player Michael Redd still believes the Bucks have a serious chance at the title, which he analyzed in detail on our “1-ON-1 with Basketball Network” interview.
“I do believe the Bucks can make a run for the playoffs. They have all the ingredients. They have the experience, they have the talent, I believe they have the coaching, and they have the organization. The organization group that has come in over the last six or seven years has been terrific. And they’ve provided the organization to have an opportunity to be successful. So, they’re on a little skid right now, but that happens throughout the season”Michael Redd, 1-ON-1 with Basketball Network
Going into the second part of the season, the main question is how will Jrue adapt and integrate into the Bucks system. Holiday was out for ten games because of health and safety protocols, and he admitted he wasn’t feeling like himself after he got the virus. But Redd still thinks Jrue is crucial for the Bucks.
“Jrue Holiday is an incredible addition to the team, although I enjoyed Eric Bledsoe and his contributions. Then you got Bobby Portis, who played extremely well this season, and young guys like Di Vincenzo who are developing. So the bucks have a deep team, and they’ve just got to continue to do what they’ve been doing. They can defend well, they can shoot the three well, and I see them as a top team in the East again.”Michael Redd, 1-ON-1 with Basketball Network
So far, the Bucks haven’t shown that they can challenge the Sixers or the Nets for the top spot in the East. But that doesn’t mean the Bucks don’t have room to progress. If anyone can set up a defense scheme in the right way, then it’s Mike Budenholzer, and the Bucks certainly have the depth to fight the best in the East.
