Michael Jordan speaks on COVID protocols

As we learned, around 10% of the players started training camp unvaccinated. They put a lot of pressure on the league to minimize COVID protocols in terms of testing, social distancing, and all other processes put in place to reduce the spread of the virus. As the owner of the Hornets, Michael Jordan made it clear he fully supports the league and all measures it is taking.

“I am in total unison with the league. And I think everybody’s been speaking about the vaccinations, and you know, I’m a firm believer in science. I’m gonna stick with that, and hopefully everybody abides by whatever the league sets as rules. I think once everybody buys in we’re gonna be fine.”

After Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his direct criticism of players who are still refusing to get the vaccine and who tried to reduce the rules they have to follow as unvaccinated people, Michael Jordan is another legendary role model who made it clear he is a “firm believer in science.” (Kind of sad we need role models for that in 2021). Will this have an impact on Kyrie and other players still skeptical remains to be seen, but it definitely can’t hurt.

MJ also talked about the upcoming season and stressed people shouldn’t write Bucks off just because the Nets look invincible on paper, adding that “if you’re a champion someone’s gonna have to knock you off the pedestal.” Still, he pointed out the Nets and Heat as the leading contenders in the East and gave a nod to the Bulls and their improvements. But, given we’re still in a COVID season, MJ concluded that the team that remains as healthy as possible will have a tremendous competitive advantage yet again.

“Whoever stays healthy, battle COVID-19 issues that they may have in the course of the year, it’s gonna give that team the best chance. Staying healthy is our biggest thing for us. We gotta stay healthy.”

Hopefully, injuries and games lost to COVID won’t be the main topic this season. With LaMelo Ball‘s incredible season, MJ is surely expecting the Hornets to show up in the Playoffs. That’s something they haven’t done since 2016.
