Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf is offering shooting lessons for Ben Simmons

There is no question Steph Curry revolutionized the game of basketball with his three-point shooting and completely changed the way the game is being played today. The three-pointer has become the most wanted shot in modern basketball, and shooters are always a welcomed addition to your team. But way before Curry started to dominate the NBA with his shooting, there was another player in the ’90s that was playing way ahead of his time. His name is Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

Rauf was never an All-Star or a franchise player, but during his career, he was a very dangerous guy on the court, lighting up defenses, shooting like anyone we’ve ever seen before. Unfortunately, his career took a drastic turn when he was “blackballed” out of the league at just 29 years old. But that didn’t stop him from cementing his legacy as one of the best shooters ever.

So when Mahmoud saw what happened to Ben Simmons in this year’s playoffs, he had to intervene. The Sixers star had a collapse rarely seen in the NBA, completely losing his confidence and costing his team a playoff series due to his inability to shoot from anywhere on the floor, causing him to be passive and scared to contribute. That sparked harsh reactions and ridicule from all over the NBA world, but Mahmoud went the other direction, offering support and possible shooting lessons for the young Australian.

Ben Simmons. Much love to you, my brother. I know a lot of people at your neck right now. But I think this is the time you can really change the narrative and possibly prove yourself and other people wrong. A lot of people are trying to get at you, help you with your shot, which I believe if you had one, could turn you from an All-Star to a Super-Max type of guy. I’m not saying I’m the only one that can do that. That would be insane, but I do believe I can be of service to you. If you and your people are interested, give me a call.

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf

This move by Mahmoud received praise from around the NBA world, standing out as one the rare people offering help instead of jumping on the bandwagon of hatred towards Simmons. Mahmoud definitely knows a thing or two about shooting, so Ben will hopefully prove he has a good work ethic and motivation to improve by taking this grateful offer. Who knows, maybe one day it will pay off and make him one of the best players in the game. Everything is possible if you put in the work.
