When you look at it realistically, the Lakers actually didn’t have much chance to make the playoffs this season. With a lot of team members, being injured in an extremely competitive western conference, it was almost an impossible task of making it to the playoffs even with LeBron James. The consequences of a subpar season resulted in many changes, starting from Luke Walton who is no longer their coach, to Magic Johnson who has also resigned after pretty much running the entire show for the Lakers.
Despite a pretty negative atmosphere surrounding the Lakers, their legend and former employee Magic Johnson still believes the team is bound for success next season. In a recent interview, Magic said he is still heavily involved with the Lakers and is positive LeBron will lead them to a championship.
“It’s almost like I never left. I’m still talking to them every day. … I’m going to help them get the Lakers back right. I love LeBron and LeBron is going to lead us to a championship.”
There was even some speculation that LeBron expressed his concern about Magic running the franchise, however, Magic immediately said that never happened and that he is still excited that he signed with the team last year.
Even though the Lakers are out of the playoffs and are not playing a single game anymore, everything surrounding the team will be a hot topic for discussion. It will also be interesting to see what moves their front office will make in order to improve the team and hopefully secure the playoffs next season.
