Magic in 2017: “I left my business to concentrate fully, 150% on Laker business.”

It just keeps getting worse for Magic. His First Take appearance was an attempt to control damage to, what is becoming evident is extremely important to him, his public perception.

This entire season was labeled a disaster mostly due to team construction. Surround LeBron with shooters isn’t a revelation, so when the Lakers did the exact opposite, there was a lot of head scratching going on.

In assigning blame between the coach (who Magic wanted to fire) and the front office, almost everyone agreed the biggest slice of the blame pie goes to Magic and Pelinka. Even when he tried to explain himself out of that narrative, a video of Magic from summer league surfaced in which he bragged about how toughness is more important than shooting in the playoffs.

He did his homework, huh. As it turns out, this won’t be the only slice of blame pie Magic will be served this year. The main story was Magic taking a full-time job but working only part-time. According to Magic, he was upfront with Jeanie and told her he couldn’t leave his business and give Lakers his 100%. Then another clip surfaced, this time from 2017 when he took the job.

For a man that left because he “couldn’t tweet,” you’d think he would know nothing is ever in the past if it came online. Pelinka said he still values his opinion; Jeanie still wants him to help with recruiting.

Who the hell, in a healthy state of mind, would want to join this organization?
