In an exclusive interview, Magic Johnson did with Patrick Bet-David, Magic talked about several things surrounding basketball, personal life, and entrepreneurship. When it comes to the topic of the best player in NBA history, Magic is very transparent that it’s none other than Michael Jordan. Magic also shared his thoughts on whether LeBron James can ever surpass Jordan and what kind of things he would have to achieve for the remainder of his career to get to that level.
Magic believes it would take at least 4 more NBA championships in LeBron’s resume in order for him to be in the same conversation as Jordan. Realistically that is very hard to achieve, especially considering the fact LeBron is already 35, despite being in top physical shape for his entire career.
“He’d probably have to win 7 or 8. We have to remember something about Michael. He never lost in the NBA Finals, never. Never. And in those Finals, he was averaging like 35pts a game. He was putting in work. So that’s hard, very hard. If he wins 7 than we have a conversation.”Magic Johnson
He also believes LeBron is a tremendous player, but if he had to choose in a draft between the two, Magic said he would definitely pick Jordan.
“I’m taking Michael, I’m taking Michael all day.”Magic Johnson
LeBron has a great chance to capture another championship with the Los Angeles Lakers after NBA returns to action in 10 days. Despite being 35, LeBron’s longevity might give him a chance to have a few more chances to win a championship in the next few years. LeBron has two more years on his contract, alongside one optional year, which means the Lakers will do everything in their power to put him in the position to win. If LeBron wins two more championships, then the GOAT debate becomes even more exciting, but for now, Jordan has an edge, according to Magic.
