Luke Walton is considered by many as one of the best young coaches in the NBA. He is known as a good communicator and has a friendly relationship with his players. His knowledge of the game of basketball is also at a very high level and there shouldn’t be any surprises if he becomes one of the best coaches in the NBA.
Walton often speaks highly of his players and former teammates and recently he complimented LeBron James and his ability to communicate everything properly to his teammates (via SB Nation).
“I’ve always heard what his basketball IQ was like, but in the short time I’ve spent with him, it’s off the charts,” Walton told reporters after a shootaround last week. “It’s really impressive what a student of the game he is, and the way he sees the game and can communicate that to his teammates.”
Even though LeBron just recently joined the Lakers, he quickly established himself as a leader, especially for the young core of players the team drafted in recent years. James will also have the balance the young squad with a group of veterans who joined the team this summer which is definitely not an easy task.
Apart from LeBron, the Lakers have one of the “smartest” rosters in the league. Rajon Rondo is considered by many as one of the high IQ players, Lonzo Ball has also shown tremendous knowledge about the game even though he is only a sophomore. Brandon Ingram is also one of the young players who have the right mind and skillset to excel a lot in the upcoming season.
LeBron James has taken a keen interested in further developing Ingram who is more than a decade younger than him. If he will be able to learn how to approach the game the right way, only the sky is the limit for the young Ingram.
The upcoming season will be a learning experience for the entire team but given the amount of experience and basketball IQ this team posses we’re positive the Lakers will have a much more successful season than they had in the last couple of years.
