After playing in three straight games that went to overtime, the Lakers were able to pull out a win in regular time against the Memphis Grizzlies. Even though they won, the Grizzlies had a strong first quarter, and things weren’t looking good for the Lakers heading into the third quarter. Eventually, they took back control of the game, and it was LeBron and AD which led the way.
In an interview with LeBron, former player and commentator Richard Jefferson started joking with LeBron about him missing a few dunks lately. LeBron, who recently turned 36, is still in tip-top shape but missed on a few dunks, easy opportunities that a few years ago there was no way he would miss. LeBron jokingly said he deserves a new nickname, WashedKing.
I don’t know RJ. I really don’t know, man. I think the WashedKing is really starting to catch up with me.”LeBron James, via ESPN
The Lakers struggled in the last few games even though they pulled out a win in each of those games. LeBron thinks the main problem is that it takes the team a bit longer to get into the game, which is not supposed to happen against good teams.
We have to figure that out. In all seriousness, we get down in the first quarter, and it takes a while to get going, but we can’t do that vs. no team, especially the good things. We’re going to play a lot of good teams coming up, so getting down 20 points on our home floor is not a good ingredient for a championship team but found the way to get it done, but we need to be better with that for sure.LeBron James, via ESPN
Next week, the Lakers will play the Nuggets and the Nets, both championship-caliber teams, which will be a perfect test for them to see if they can beat those teams without any drama. Even though they recently had a few close games, they are looking good as a team, and LeBron himself is playing like a real MVP, despite a few missed dunks or layups now and then.
