LeBron James shares why Luka Doncic is one of his favorite players in the NBA and what makes them similar

LeBron James was always very vocal about his appreciation for Luka Doncic and how he plays the game. The similarities between them are real, and in a recent interview for Spectrum Sportsnet, LeBron talked about what makes Doncic one of his favorite players in the NBA. He also recognized that there are multiple similarities in playings styles between the two.

After his remarkable rookie season, he surprised everyone who doubted him and took it to another level in his second season when he was a serious MVP candidate last year. Showing incredible maturity and high basketball IQ, Doncic established himself into an NBA superstar at only 20 years old. LeBron shared his appreciation for him because he sees himself in Doncic and how they play the game getting other teammates involved while simultaneously scoring 30 or more points against any team in the league.

Luka is one of my favorite players in the NBA today from a simple fact the way I play the game is exactly how I love he plays the game. Team first gets his guys involved. If you challenge me to score, I’m going to score, and at the same time, I’m going to score and keep my guys involved. I play for the team, and I’m going to play with a sense of joy.

LeBron also disclosed that he wanted to get Luka signed with Nike and be apart of Team LeBron when he was still looking for a brand he could represent. LeBron had a plan to start his brand with Nike, but apparently, they couldn’t agree on how the setup would look like. Nevertheless, LeBron planned to get Luka to be the first signee because of the sheer respect he has for the Slovenian Wunderkind.

When Luka was going through his contract negotiations with Nike, and at one point, you saw him wearing Jordan’s, and then he started wearing other brands on his feet during practice. I wanted to begin Team LeBron and have Luka as my first signee with Nike. This is what I wanted. I don’t believe my guys at Nike were ready for that, and obviously, they weren’t because he ended up going to Jordan. And I don’t even know if Luka knows this, but he will know it now. I want Luka to be the first signee of Team LeBron when he was going through his situation, and that didn’t happen. He is still under the same umbrella as Nike and Jordan. That is how much I believed in him. I wanted him to be my guy, and I just love what he stands for. I love everything about him both on and off the court.
