LeBron James responds to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s criticism about athletes getting involved with politics

Famous soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic commented two days ago on how LeBron James and other athletes should stay away from politics. Zlatan’s reasoning behind his statement is that athletes, in general, should stick to their respective sports and leave politics to the politicians. He believes most athletes like LeBron don’t have enough knowledge or education to deal with these issues.

It didn’t take long for LeBron to respond to Zlatan’s criticism and, in a press conference after last night’s game, talked about his necessity to be involved as much as he can. He wants to use his platform and voice to speak about the issues impacting the communities he cares about, and he doesn’t plan to stop there.

At the end of the day, I would never shut up about things that are wrong. I preach about my people, and I preach about equality, social injustice, racism, voter suppression, things that go on in our community because I was apart of my community at one point seeing things that were going on. I know what is going on still because I have a group of 300+ kids at my school that are going through the same thing. They need a voice, and I’m their voice, and I use my platform to continue and shed light on everything that might be going on not only in my community but around this country and the world.

The concept ‘shut up and dribble’ is something LeBron will never accept, and he will continue his fight to help those who are underprivileged. When it comes to Zlatan’s comment, LeBron said he doesn’t understand where that is coming from because he remembers Zlatan talking about similar racial issues he experienced in Sweden because of his last name.

There is no way I would just stick to sports because I understand how powerful my voice is, and he can just ask Renee Montgomery. If I would just shut up and dribble. It’s funny he said that because I believe in 2018, he was the same guy, and he was talking about the same things when he was back in Sweden because his last name wasn’t a certain last name and that he felt there was some racism when he was on the pitch. I thought he said that, so I speak from a very educated mind, and I’m the wrong guy to go at because I do my homework.
