The Lakers are still undefeated on the road, with their 10th road win coming against the Clippers, thanks to LeBron James. In 38 minutes on the floor, LeBron dropped a 47/8/6, added 2 blocks and 2 steals, went 19-26 from the floor, 7-11 from three. In previous years you’d think it was a blowout, but the Sexland Cavaliers are not a bad team. The Lakers won 115 – 108.
Out of his 47, LeBron dropped 21 in the 4th quarter, draining tough shots and giving Cleveland a vintage LeBron performance. But it wasn’t just about preserving an undefeated record on the road that motivated James. A Cleveland front office executive made the ultimate mistake. At the end of the 3rd quarter, LeBron shot and missed. A Cleveland exec enjoyed that miss a bit too much for LeBron’s liking.
“He’s part of the [Cavaliers] front office group. He was really excited about me missing that shot. A little more extra than I would have liked. He’s got to root his team, obviously, and he showcased that. I knew I had another quarter, and the fourth quarter is my favorite.”LeBron James, via Harrison Faigen
LeBron outscored the entire Cavs team in the 4th, 21-19, after this moment. LeBron fulfilled his promise after returning from Miami and left on much better terms. But the bitter taste of the Decision and the comic sans letter left will most likely always be there.
There are always matchups and teams players get into playoff mode against. LeBron didn’t need extra motivation, yet the Cleveland exec gave it to him. Big mistake.
When it comes to the Lakers, they are on cruise control and leading the league at 14-4. They have the league’s second-best defense and eighth-best offense. In total, the Lakers are the league’s most dominant team beating opponents with an average of 9.8 points. Given the number of new additions, the defensive part is a delightful surprise.
We all know where our thoughts and emotions are going to be for the next few days. We can say LeBron is doing a great job of keeping his promise to Kobe. The Lakers are in safe hands.
