Wizards announcer says Simmons is the most overrated player in the NBA

For most of his NBA career, Ben Simmons had to deal with criticism regarding his shooting abilities. Philadelphia point guard struggled with shooting during the season he spent at LSU, but his shooting issues continued in the NBA. Simmons has only hit four 3-pointers so far in his career, and opponents know he isn't much of a shooting threat. That means that they will leave him wide open, and his shots from deep are rarely contested. But, shooting from behind the arc is uncomfortable for Ben. That is usually a problem for the Sixers since the opposing teams want him to shoot the ball as much as possible.

Despite being an insecure shooter, Simmons' stats are still pretty good. The Australian is averaging 16.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game and has a reputation as one of the best defensive players at the point guard position. Along with Joel Embiid, he's certainly the most important player for the Sixers.

But some people in the NBA think differently. During the Philadelphia vs. Wizards game (in which Simmons did not perform due to COVID-19 protocols), the Wizards announcer Justin Kutcher said Simmons was overrated.

"I've said it before and I know I'll take flak for it. I think Ben Simmons is one of if not the most overrated player in the NBA. He's got so much love and attention that people aren't paying attention to what Tobias Harris is doing on the floor."

Sure, Simmons has holes in his game, but to call him the most overrated in the entire league sounds inappropriate. Kendrick Perkins was not happy hearing this, and he offered his opinion on Twitter.

"Did he just say that Ben Simmons is the most overrated player in the league? Shame on him. This gotta be the most disturbing thing I've heard all year. He do realize that Simmons is the front runner for DPOY ?!", Perk tweeted.

After his comments triggered an avalanche of criticism, Kutcher wanted to clarify his statements.

"Yep, I said that Ben Simmons is one of the most overrated players in the NBA, and I stand by it. I didn't say he was BAD, just not as good as everyone makes him out to be. GREAT defender, potential DPOY, but I think he's made All League / All Star Teams based on hype. And..goodnight"

Even though Kutcher disrespected his game, Ben shows that he is a vital part of the leading Eastern Conference team. We'll see if he can be even better when it matters the most - in the playoffs.
