Westbrook breaks Wilt's 51-year-old record

Wilt-vs-Russell

Russell Westbrook has been breaking all kinds of records with his play the last few seasons, and last night he notched another one, clearing the dust from a 51-year old record set by who other than the great Wilt Chamberlain.

Last night the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Portland Trail Blazers 116-107, as the Thunder notched their 11thwin in 12 games. But the story of the night was Russell Westbrook who had 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists and recorded his 10thstraight triple-double, breaking Wilt’s record for most consecutive games with a triple-double after 51 years.

Just another of many Westbrook’s triple-double records, but it is extra impressive when someone in modern basketball manages the break Wilt’s records. He is also on pace to average a triple-double for the third straight season, as that would be another record set by him.

Even his teammate Paul George had a monster game as he finished with 47 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, as they posted the first teammate triple-double in Thunder history and eight in NBA history.

After starting the season slowly with four losses, this duo is taking the NBA by storm, as Paul George is playing like a legitimate MVP candidate and Westbrook is averaging a triple-double alongside with him.

With the help of their supporting cast, they are currently 36-19 and sitting comfortably in the third seed, just one game behind the Denver Nuggets. If they continue this level of play, that could be a real threat to the Warriors in the Western Conference playoffs.
