The 3-point revolution isn't slowing down, and the latest NBA record proves it

Steph-Curry---threes-min

It's been nearly a decade since the NBA's 3-point revolution took over, and the league's latest collective record proves its long-range-shots dependence is stronger than ever.

For the ninth straight season, the NBA record for 3-pointers per game has been broken. Even if zero threes are made in the last 38 games of the regular season, this year's league average will top any other NBA season.

The league's collective 3s-per-game record was eclipsed after the Wizards' forward Davis Bertans knocked down a three with 10:04 left in the 4th quarter of Washington's game against the Hawks, making the NBA's 26,475th three-pointer of the season. The previous per-game mark, set last season, was 12.2. Teams entered Wednesday's games, averaging 12.7 threes per contest.

The Utah Jazz lead the NBA with 16.8 3-pointers per game despite hitting only 12 in yesterday's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. With two games left in the regular season, they are a lock to break the previous mark of 16.7 set by the 18/19 Houston Rockets for most 3-pointers per game by a team over an entire season.

Going into the 20/21 NBA season, only nine teams in the league history averaged 13.5 threes per game or more. As of today, there are 11 teams on pace to surpass that threshold -- Blazers, Raptors, Bucks, Warriors, Clippers, Nets, Hornets, Mavericks, Rockets, and Celtics.

Steph Curry - the architect of the 3-point revolution - once again leads the NBA in 3PM (5.3) and is on the brink of breaking his own record for most 3s made per game by a player in a season -- the current mark is 5.1 set by Curry in '19. The Warriors superstar is also attempting the most threes on a per-game basis in the entire association (12.6), continuing his unprecedented run shooting the ball from long range.

Over the last decade, the rate of three-pointers made has basically doubled. Naturally, the rate of three-pointers attempted is also on a record-breaking trajectory. The current mark, set last season, is 34.1 3PAs per game. This season, teams are averaging 34.6, on pace to set a new record for the 10th straight year.

So if you thought the NBA 3-point craze is slowing down, you're wrong. It hasn't slowed down for the past decade, and records like these prove it won't be doing so any time soon.
