The '19/20 New Orleans Pelicans

Zion Williamson Pelicans

The Pelicans are looking at Jrue Holliday, Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Solomon Hill, E'Twaun Moore. Jahi Okafor is a team option player, Julius Randle has a player option (which he will likely decline).

That is a very nice young core that will likely be improved with whatever the Pelicans can get for the 4th pick in this years Draft. Before the trade was agreed upon, the Pelicans shopped the 4th pick around the league and must've got some interest to pull the trigger on the deal.

Jrue and Lonzo have the potential of being one of the best defensive guard tandems in the league, Brandon Ingram was playing his best basketball before his injury (that is supposedly healed and will not be a recurring thing) and Zion is touted as the best prospect since AD or LeBron - excellent company to be in. Josh Hart is a great 6th man for them as well.

In addition to that, the Pelicans effectively control the Lakers draft future for the next seven years. This is where you see the value of a top-level GM. Griff didn't want the Lakers 2020 Draft pick when the Lakers are assumably good next season, and that will probably be bad.

Griff had a front row seat to what happens to teams with Lebron, another star (Kyrie/Davis), a third guy (Love/potential max signing) and a bunch of mid-level and minimum guys. Those teams don't have longevity and usually burn out in a few years. In addition to that, LeBron is turning 35 this December and had his first significant injury. This could go bad in a few years, and the Pelicans have all the Lakers first rounders from 2020 to 2025. This is the Brooklyn-Boston level of exposure.

The Pelicans have a good young core, a superstar potential player in Zion coming their way a lot of assets to pick or trade. Most importantly, this time they have David Griffin using those assets and making the decisions.
