Stephen A.Smith heavily criticized Russell Westbrook after the Los Angeles Lakers suffered another loss against the Los Angeles Clippers

It was ugly, it was nasty

The Clippers have won their 7th straight game against their hometown rivals, and by now, it's safe to say the Lakers as a team are not looking too great. Their fans were hoping they would potentially bounce back from their slump after the All-Star break, but that is not happening, and the Lakers are far from looking like a legitimate playoff team.

For Stephen A.Smith, Russell Westbrook is the big part of their problems, and it's not so much his poor performance but more so his body language, especially after last night's loss against the Clippers.

"It was but ugly, it was nasty, it was a deplorable performance. They were an embarrassment."

Smith was frustrated that Westbrook said he had no expectations, which is pretty much impossible when you play for the Lakers. Westbrook is having a bad season, and Smith recognizes that and has respect for Westbrook, but it just seems the chemistry between him and the rest of the team is not there yet and probably never will be.

"When I saw Russell Westbrook say what he said. He is having a bad season, and we all get that, but he is still Russell Westbrook, and a lot of times, people have unfairly attacked his character throughout the years. He is not someone that doesn't care; he never cheated us with effort.

Smith is frustrated with Westbrook

Smith even said Westbrook has a somewhat obligation to LeBron and AD to perform at the best of his ability because LeBron brought him to the team in the first place.

"When I watched him at the press conference last night, that was the first time, regardless of what has happened with Westbrook this season, that I looked at him and said he doesn't deserve to be a Laker. I have never heard a Laker say I don't have expectations. First of all, purple and gold bring expectations. Your teammates are LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and they both have chips. You were brought there pretty much by LeBron James to help deliver the chip. When you say you don't have any expectations, that is something I have never heard from a Laker."

This season is perhaps the hardest one in Westbrook's career since its evident age is catching up to him, and the system Lakers have in place simply doesn't match his playing style. With Westbrook, you can't deny he has the desire and competitive drive to win every game, but with the Lakers, it's simply not working. Apparently, there is expressed interest in Westbrook and Lakers part ways after this season, but that remains to be seen depending on whether they can mount a comeback and surprise everyone.
